৮টি হাঁস জীবনের মোড় ঘুরালো লেবু মিয়ার

জীবনে পোড় খাওয়া মোহাম্মাদ আলী লেবু মিয়ার বয়স ৪৫ পার হয়েছে। কিন্তু সংসার জুড়ে আসে নি কোন সন্তান তেমনি সংসারে আসেনি কোন সাচ্ছন্দ ও সচ্চলতা। জীবন সংগ্রামে বার বার খেয়েছেন মার। সংসারে উদ্বৃত্ত বলতে কোন কিছুই সংগ্রহে রাখতে পারেনি। এমনকি তিনবেলা পেটপুরে খাবার পাওয়া নিশ্চয়তাও তার ছিল না। সেই বয়স যখন ১২/১৩ তখন থেকেই পেটের খুদা নিবারনের জন্য কাজ করে চলেছেন আজ অবদি। কিন্তু পান নি কোন স্থায়ী সমাধান যে এই কাজটা সে সারা বছর করতে পারবে। কোন কারণে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েলে সুস্থ হয়ে আবার কাজটা করতে পারবে। নিজের বা পৈত্রিক কোন সম্পত্তি নেই বাস্ত ভিটা ছাড়া। বসত বাড়ীতে ছোট একটি কাচা ঘর ছিল সেখানে স্বামী স্ত্রী দুজন সংসার করছেন ২৩ বছর যাবৎ। লেবু মিয়ার স্ত্রীও অনেক কর্মঠ। সে আশেপাশের বাড়ীতে মাঝে মাঝে কাজ করতো। আসলে সিলেট অঞ্চলে মেয়েদের কাজের খুবই অভাব। ঘর গৃহস্থলির কাজ কর্ম ছাড়া অন্য কোন কাজে মেয়েদের তেমন দেখা যায় না। লেবু মিয়ার স্ত্রী ময়নার পরামর্শেই হাঁস পালন করে, আজ কোন স্থায়ী কর্ম সংস্থান করেছেন। যে গল্প আজ শোনাব।
লেবু মিয়া কাজের সন্ধ্যানে সুনামগঞ্জ ও নেত্রকোনায় তার যাতায়াত হতো। তখন নদীর মাঝে, বিলের মাঝে এবং হাওড়ে এরকম ঝাক ধরে ৫০০-৮০০-১০০০ এমনকি এর চেয়েও বেশি হাঁসের ঝাক পানিতে ভাসতে দেখতেন। তখন তার মনে হতো এভাবে বাড়ী ছেড়ে দুর-দুরান্তে কাজ করার চেয়ে, যদি এভাবে হাস পালন করতে পারি তাহলেতো বাড়ীতে থেকে একটা কাজের ব্যবস্থা হয়। তারপর ভাবেন নদী মাতৃক বাংলাদেশের নদী-নালা, খাল-বিল, পুকুর, ডোবা, জলাশয় হাঁস পালনে বিশেষ উপযোগী। দারিদ্র বিমোচনে হাঁস খামারের গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম।
স্বল্প পুঁজি এবং সাধারণ ব্যবস্থাপনা প্রদানের মাধ্যমে খুব সহজেই গ্রামীণ পর্যায়ে হাঁস লালন পালন করা সম্ভব। মৌলভিবাজার জেলার করিম নগর গ্রামের চার পাশে ডোবা, নালা, খাল, বিল। হাঁস নালা ও নীচু জলাশয়ের পোকা মাকড়, শামুক, ঝিনুক, ছোট মাছ ইত্যাদি থেকে তার খাদ্য চাহিদার অধিকাংশ মিটিয়ে ফেলবে। তাই হাঁসের জন্য তৈরী খাদ্যের প্রয়োজন বেশ কম লাগবে। তাছাড়াও মুরগির চেয়ে হাঁসের রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতা বেশী, এদের মৃত্যুহারও কম। মুরগির চেয়ে হাঁস বড় আকারের হয়ে থাকে এবং অধিক সংখ্যক ডিম দিয়ে থাকে।
এরপর বাসায় এসে স্ত্রী ময়নার সাথে পরামর্শ করেন। ময়না তাকে পরামর্শ দেয় শুরুতে ঋণ করে বেশি হাঁস না এনে, কম হাঁস দিয়ে শুরু করি। যে ভাবনা সেই কাজ।
দেশী জাতের ৭টি মায়া (স্ত্রী) ও ১টি মদ্দা (পুরুষ) মোট ৮টি হাঁসের বাচ্চা কিনে আনেন। ময়না সেই হাঁসগুলোকে পালন করতে থাকেন। এর পর ছয় মাস পরে এক সাথে ছয়টি হাঁস এবং ৮ মাস পরে এক সাথে ৭টি হাস ডিম পাড়া শুরু করে। দুজনই ভাবলেন এটাতো ভালো হবে। পরে ১০,০০০ টাকা ঋন নিয়ে এক সাথে ৩০০ হাঁসের বাচ্চা নিয়ে খামার শুরু করেন। বাচ্চাগুলো আনতে এলেন নারায়নগঞ্জের কেন্দ্রিয় হাস প্রজনন খামারে। সেখানে তারা লেবু মিয়াকে হাঁস পালনের উপর তিন দিনের প্রশিক্ষণ দিলেন কিভাবে হাঁসের বাচ্চা পালন করতে হবে। ডিম হতে বের হবার পর সুষ্ঠু জীবন বৃদ্ধির জন্য হাঁসের বাচ্চাকে তাপ দিতে হয়। বাচ্চা অবস্থায় এদের শরীরে প্রাথমিক লোম পড়ে পুনবায় পালক না গজানো পর্যন্ত নিজেদের দেহের তাপমাত্রা নিজেরা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে পারেনা বলে ব্রæডিং করার প্রয়োজন হয়। শীতকালে বাচ্চা ফোটার পর ৪-৬ সপ্তাহ ব্রæডিং করলেন।
এরপর বাচ্চার বয়স ১ মাস না হওয়া পর্যন্ত বাচ্চা পানিতে ছাড়া উচিত নয়। বড় বা গভীর জলাশয়ে না ছেড়ে ছোট গর্তে পানি দিয়ে বাচ্চকে আধা ঘন্টা এক ঘন্টা করে অভ্যস্ত করতে লাগলেন।
রোগ-ব্যাধীর চিকিৎসার চেয়ে রোগ যেন না হয় সেটি অধিক কাম্য। এ ব্যবাপরটা মাথায় রেখে নিয়মিত ঘরের মেঝে, বেড়া ইত্যাদি পরিস্কার করে মাঝে মাঝে জীবাণুনাশক ঔষধ যেমনঃ আইয়োসান, ফিনাইল ইত্যাদি ছিটিয়ে দিতেন। ছোট অবস্থায় স্বাস্থ্য সম্মত সুষম খাবার প্রদান করতেন। খামারে অন্যের অবাধ প্রবেশ নিষিদ্ধ করে দিলেন। পাখী, ইদুর, পোকা-মাকড় এবং কুকুর বা অন্য কোন বন্য জন্তু যেন খামারে প্রবেশ করতে না পারে, সে দিকে খেয়াল রাখলেন। স্বামী স্ত্রী দুজন মিলে সব সময় পরিস্কার পানি প্রদান করতেন। কোন হাঁস অসুস্থ হলে আলাদা করে ফেলতেন। লিটার এবং শেডের অন্যান্য আবর্জনা শেড হতে কমপক্ষে ১০০ গজ দূরে বাতাসের প্রবাহের বিপরীত দিকে নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে জমা রাখতেন। মাঝে মাঝে কৃমিনাশক ঔষধ সঠিক মাত্রায় খাওয়াতেন। ভাদ্র আশ্বিন মাসে এসে হাঁস বিলে চরাতেন। তখন এক সাথে প্রতিদিন দুইশোর অধিক ডিম পাড়া শুরু করে। প্রতিটি ডিম তিনি ৬ টাকা দরে বাড়ী থেকে পাইকারি বিক্রি করতেন। ২০০ ডিম মানে ১২০০ টাকা প্রতিদিন আয়। সুদ সমেত ১০,০০০ টাকার ঋণ পরিশোধ করে ফেললেন। ফেব্রæয়ারী মাসে এসে বিলের পানি শুকিয়ে গেল তখন কিছু হাঁসে ডিম পাড়ে তবে অধিকাংশ হাঁস ডিম না পাড়ায় তাদের যে খাবার দিতে হয় তার খরচ অনেক হওয়ায়, এই বড় হাঁসগুলো বিক্রি করে আবার নারায়নগঞ্জের কেন্দ্রীয় হাঁস প্রজণন কেন্দ্র থেকে ৯০০টি হাঁসের বাচ্চা নিয়ে এলেন। বাচ্চাদের খাবার খরচ কম, পালন করতে জায়গা লাগছে কম, বাড়ীতে রেখেই দুজনে মিলে পালন করতে লাগলেন। কিন্ত কয়েকটি বাচ্চা মারা গেল। বড় হলো ৮২০টি হাঁস। বড় হয়ে গেলে তাদের বাড়ীতে আর রাখা সম্ভব হলোনা পরে দুজন কর্মচারি রাখলেন। এই হাঁস দেখাশোনার জন্য। সকালে ঘর থেকে হাঁসগুলো বের করে নিয়ে যায় বিলের মাঝে চরায় খাওয়ানোর জন্য। সন্ধ্যার আগে ফিরে আসে তারপর ঘরে থাকে হাঁসগুলো।
মুলত পানির সময়টাতে হাঁসের বাড়তি কোন খাবার দিতে হয় না। গত বছর ৮২০টি হাঁস থেকে সব খরচ বাদ দিয়ে দুই লক্ষ টাকা আয় করেন। সেই আয়ের অর্থ দিয়ে বাড়ীতে তিনি একটি সুন্দর টিনের ঘর তুলেছেন এবং বাড়ীর পাশে উঠান সংলগ্ন এটি টিনের ছাবড়া ঘর তুলেছেন, যেখানে রাতের বেলা হাঁসগুলো থাকে। এর পাশেই একটি পুকুরের মতো কেটেছেন যেখানে হাঁসগুলো জল কেলি করতে পারে। বাচ্চাগুলোও এই পুকুরের পাশে লালন পালন করেন। আগামী মৌসুমের জন্য লেবু মিয়া আরো ৫০০ বাচ্চার অর্ডার করে এসেছেন। (আপনারা যারা ভাল জাতের হাঁসের বাচ্চা সংগ্রহ করতে চান তার যোগাযোগ করুন কেন্দ্রিয় হাঁস প্রজনন খামার, হাজীগঞ্জ, নারায়নগঞ্জ এবং আঞ্চলিক হাঁস প্রজণন খামার, দৌলতপুর, খুলনা। প্রতি মাসের ৫, ১০, ১৫, ২০, ২৫ ও ৩০ তারিখে হাঁসের বাচ্চা বিক্রি করা হয়।) তার সাথে দুজন কর্মচারীসহ একই গ্রামের একজন আছেন যিনি লেবু মিয়ার কাছ থেকে ডিম ক্রয় করে নিয়ে শহরের বিভিন্ন হোটেল ও দোকানে বিক্রি করেন।
লেবু মিয়া লেখা পড়া জানেন না। স্ত্রী ময়না বেগম প্রাইমারী শেষ করে ছিলেন। তাদের ইচ্চা আগামী পাঁচ বছর পর অনেক টাকা জমিয়ে তারা হাঁসের বাচ্চা উৎপাদনের জন্য হ্যাচারি করবেন। আশেপাশের গ্রামের মানুষ যাতে হাঁস পালন করতে পারে।
লেবু মিয়ার মতো এই উজ্জ্বল সম্ভাবনাই ধীরে ধীরে পূরণ করতে পারে দেশের ক্রমবর্ধমান জনগণের আমিষের চাহিদা, এগিয়ে নিতে পারে দেশের আর্থ সামাজিক উন্নয়ন। হাঁস পালন হতে পারে একজন শিক্ষিত বেকার যুবক/যুবতির দারিদ্র বিমোচনের এক হাতিয়ার।
