গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজের আবাদ ও উৎপাদন বাড়াতে ১৬ কোটি ২০ লাখ টাকার প্রণোদনা দেয়া হবে। ১৯ জেলার ১৮ হাজার কৃষক এ প্রণোদনার আওতায় বিনামূল্যে বীজ ও সার পাবেন। এতে একজন কৃষক এক বিঘা জমিতে চাষের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় এক কেজি বীজ, ২০ কেজি ডিএপি ও ২০ কেজি এমওপি সার বিনামূল্যে পাবেন।
কৃষি মন্ত্রণালয়ের নিয়মিত বাজেট কৃষি পুনর্বাসন সহায়তা খাত থেকে এ প্রণোদনা প্রদান করা হবে। এ সংক্রান্ত সরকারি আদেশ আজ জারি হয়েছে। উল্লেখ্য, পেঁয়াজের ভরা মৌসুমে দেশে পর্যাপ্ত পেঁয়াজ উৎপাদন হয়, কিন্তু সংরক্ষণের প্রযুক্তি না থাকায় অনেক পেঁয়াজ নষ্ট হয়ে যায়। এ জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় চাহিদা মেটাতে পেঁয়াজ আমদানি করতে হয়। আর এই আমদানি নির্ভরতা কমাতে কৃষি মন্ত্রণালয় রোডম্যাপ বাস্তবায়ন করছে। এর অংশ হিসেবে গত দুই বছর ধরে গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজের উৎপাদন বাড়াতে গুরুত্ব দেয়া হচ্ছে। ফলে দুই বছর আগে যেখানে গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজের উৎপাদন ছিল মাত্র ৩০০ টন, তা বেড়ে এবছর ৩৯ হাজার ৮০০ টনে উন্নীত হয়েছে।
দুই বছরে উৎপাদন বেড়েছে ৩৯ হাজার টন। ২০২০-২১ সালে গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজের আবাদ হয়েছিল মাত্র ৪০ হেক্টর জমিতে, উৎপাদন হয়েছিল ৩০০ টন। সরকারের প্রণোদনার কারণে ২০২১-২২ সালে গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজের আবাদ বেড়ে হয়েছে ২৫০০ হেক্টর জমিতে, উৎপাদন হয়েছে ৩৭ হাজার টন।আর ২০২২-২৩ সালে আবাদ হয়েছে ২৭০০ হেক্টর জমিতে, উৎপাদন হয়েছে ৩৯ হাজার ৮০০ টন। সম্প্রতি এক অনুষ্ঠানে কৃষিমন্ত্রী ড. মো: আব্দুর রাজ্জাক বলেছেন, অফ সিজনে বা গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজ চাষেও আমরা খুবই গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছি। এর সম্ভাবনাও অনেক। কৃষকদের বীজ, সার, প্রযুক্তিসহ সকল সহযোগিতা দেওয়া হচ্ছে। এই গ্রীষ্মকালীন পেঁয়াজ চাষ জনপ্রিয় করতে পারলে আমরা পেঁয়াজে শুধু স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণতা অর্জন নয়, বিদেশে রফতানিও করতে পারব।
